WHAT IS MENT BY ENGINEERING MECHANIC’S:-

Engineering Mechanics is the study of forces that act on bodies and the resultant motion that those bodies experience. Engineering mechanics subject involves the application of the principles of mechanics to solve real-time engineering problems.

Types of Engineering Mechanics:

Engineering mechanics can be broadly classified into two types. They are:

    1. Statics
    2. Dynamics

1. Statics:
Statics is the branch of mechanics that deals with the study of objects at rest. Objects at rest may or may not be under the influence of forces.

2. Dynamics:

Dynamics is the branch of mechanics that deals with the study of objects in motion and the forces causing such motion.

Dynamics Types:

Dynamics can be further classified into two types. They are:

    A. Kinematics
    B. Kinetics

A. Kinematics:

Kinematics is the study of the motion of bodies without consideration of the cause of the motion.

Kinematics deals with the space-time relationship of the motion of a body. Some examples of kinematic concepts are displacement, velocity and acceleration.

B. Kinetics:

Kinetics is the branch of mechanics which deals with the study of the motion of bodies by considering the cause of motion.

History of Engineering mechanic’s:

Historically, the principles of dynamics developed when it was possible to make an accurate measurement of time.

Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) was one of the first major contributors to this field. His work consisted of experiments using pendulums and falling bodies.

The most significant contributions in dynamics, however, were made by Isaac Newton (1642-1727), who is noted for his formulation of the three fundamental laws of motion and the law of universal gravitational attraction.

Shortly after these laws were postulated, important techniques for their application were developed by Euler, D’ Alembert, Lagrange, and others.

Use of Engineering mechanic’s :

Applied mechanics, bridges the gap between physical theory and its application to technology. It is used in many fields of engineering, especially mechanical engineering and civil engineering. In this context, it is commonly referred to as Engineering Mechanics.

Books suitable for the Engineering students :

The main purpose of this book is to provide the student with a clear and thorough presentation of the theory and application of engineering mechanics.

To achieve this objective, this work has been shaped by the comments and suggestions of hundreds of reviewers in the teaching profession, as well as many of the author’s students.

The twelfth edition of this book has been significantly enhanced from the previous
edition and it is hoped that both the instructor and student will benefit greatly from these improvements.
